Corine Land Cover viewer.
Check help at the bottom of the page.
1.Help
The European Environment Agency (EEA) developed a map application providing information about Corine land cover. This help note gives a presentation and shows the functionalities of the application.
1.1 View
The application contains a map viewer (top left) showing two different maps on top of each other, and a smaller overview map for navigation (top right). Initially you will see a map of Europe, alternating between Corine land cover 2000 and a satellite image.
2 Tools
On the top left of the map viewer window you will find two buttons, one that zooms in and one that zooms out. Keep pressing one of the buttons to obtain more or less detail. A new image will be uploaded once you release the mouse. You can view other parts of the map doing the light green arrows on the window frame. You can also use the navigation map to change the position of the map.
2.1 Selection
Click anywhere inside the map viewer to request detailed information. A window will appear showing the current and past land cover classification.
2.2 Change map layers
The map viewer shows two different maps on top of each other. You can use the slidebar on the right to make one of the maps more transparent. To see other maps you simply select a new map on the dropdown selection list. The top selection represents "Map one" and the bottom selection represents "Map two". The following layers are available: "Land cover 2000", "Land cover 1990", "Land cover changes 1990-2000", "Satellite image 2000 colour" and "Satellite image 2000 black and white"
2.3 Search a city or commune
You can search a commune or city from a list with more than 500.000 names. Select the tab "Search a city or commune" on the right side. Type the name of the city or commune and press Search. If you get no results check the option "Contains the word" and try to search again. Scroll down the search result, click the correct location and the map will zoom in on the area.
2.4 Locating cities or communes
On the map viewer (top left) keep the mouse still over an area of interest for two seconds. A new window will appear that shows all the cities or communes found in that area. When there is more than one page, simply press the down button to see the next page. A click on a name will zoom in on the chosen place.
2.5 Download data
Select the 'Download data' tab on the right side. The first two options are extracts (JPEG format files) of the maps chosen in 'Map 1' and 'Map 2' (see 2.2). The "Full database" options will re-direct you to EEA Data service or the Joint Research Centre (JRC) where the original datasets are available for download.
